Hägghult

Location: West of Lönsboda.

Max depth: 35 m.

After the mining of black diabase in the area was at a low level, industrial mining in the quarry started at the end of the 19th century. Mining continued during the 20th century, but nothing was mined during the First and Second World Wars. Black diabase is still being mined in the new quarry.

In Hägghult there are two quarries that are filled with water. You can park next to the quarries and it is easy to walk in and up.
Due to the black diabase, it is very dark in the quarry and even a strong lamp can seem weak when you go down a bit.

In the quarry by the café, a steel cable runs across the quarry and from this a cable hangs down into the water. The cable ends at about 35 m and the bottom is at 43 m. Around the quarry there are vertical walls with some ledges in places.

On the surface interval, you can take the opportunity to look at the old buildings that have been preserved in the area, such as the forge, engine house, and crane house.
