Grötvik

Location: Halmstad.

Max depth: 15 m.

The quarry in Grötvik is located down by the marina surrounded by beautiful nature. In the early 1900s they quarried stone here, but after the war they used the quarry to store coal. But since the coal was not used because it contained too much pollution, the coal was sold to England. So we probably got the pollution to Sweden anyway, but with the westerly winds.

The quarry has a depth of about 15 meters. And provides a good alternative to diving even in bad weather or want a “slightly” deeper dive. Around Halmstad you have to go out by boat if you want to go deeper than 8 meters. The bottom is muddy and visibility decreases quickly at depth. After ten meters, visibility is often only a few meters. The entrance is on the northeast side. There is a small road down to the quarry, which was used when there was activity in the quarry.
