In Gistad, located between Linköping and Norrköping, is the southernmost major ancient limestone deposit in Sweden.

Initially, limestone was quarried in the quarry, and during the 19th century, red and white marble was also quarried for monumental stones. During the years 1958–1967, 88,000 tons of stone were quarried from localities into the mountain.
