The last ship Bygdöy from Oslo hit a mine and sank on May 17, 1943. At the time, the ship was en route from Kirkenes to Hamburg with a cargo of nickel. Before the sinking, the crew managed to get into the ship’s motorized lifeboat and towed a second lifeboat. After a while, however, the engine failed and the men had to take refuge in the smaller lifeboat they had in tow to row to shore. The rescue team from Torekov had been dispatched and after an hour they found the crew just south of Hallands Väderö and towed them to Torekov.
The wreck stands upright at a depth of 32 m. The bow is relatively intact and offers many penetration opportunities. Further aft, one can see many distorted plates and other debris. The stern is destroyed.
